Job Vacancy We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work as part of our Court Team to provide pre-litigation advice, assistance and representation across all aspects of the Council’s business (but with particular emphasis, initially on Housing and Social Work cases). The exciting position of Assistant Solicitor will play a key role within the Court Team in particular in terms of appearing in Court on behalf of the Council. Accordingly we are seeking a Solicitor with Court experience and someone who enjoys Court work. The role is aimed at a Solicitor with 0-3 years PQE but we will consider applications from Trainee Solicitors (due to qualify this year) and Solicitors with more than 3 years PQE. The Court Team will provide significant training, mentoring and development for the successful candidate. You will be part of Midlothian Council’s Legal Team that strives to deliver excellence in our service provisions as demonstrated by the Law Society of Scotland (In-House Lawyer’s Group) 2014-15 Award to a member of our Legal Team. It is essential that the postholder possesses a Law degree, post graduate Diploma and a practicing certificate from the Law Society. Organisational knowledge, interpersonal skills, an understanding of public sector legal issues and court practice.
